Rewatched The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift the other night

This movie got so much undeserved hate back in the day when it was released because it was different, and its funny now seeing hardcore F&F fans say that that they appreciate it now because of the way the franchise went after this film.

I've always enjoyed this one because it's literally Need For Speed: Underground/Need For Speed: Most Wanted/Need For Speed: Carbon translated into film-form. I wonder if the director and writers took any inspiration from those games and gave it their own twist for Tokyo Drift.

Watching Tokyo Drift takes me back to a simpler time, like that early 2000s Tuner Culture that seemingly died a few years after this film. The way the cars are designed/look in this movie are something you'll hardly ever see now in today's car world and I unironically miss seeing it.

This movie also feels relatively short, like it felt only 30 minutes had gone by when I was done watching it. There's not a single scene that drags on for too long and everything is pretty much straight to the point and simple to understand all the character's motives and reasons to what's going on.

The only "Action" scenes I guess, are just punches thrown and a couple gunshots and that's it, unless you count the cars that crash throughout the film. The action scenes in F&F movies now are so ridiculous it's hilarious.

Still, it amazes me of how this franchise took a complete 180 turn after Tokyo Drift and became what we know now.
